Hand Embroidered Kashmiri Pashmina Shawls
Tehzeeb's pashmina shawls are the one collection not embroidered in Lucknow. The shawls are woven in Kashmir from genuine pashmina, the under-fleece of the Changthangi goat, and hand embroidered there in kashidakari, sozni and tilla, with a few jamawar-style pieces each year.
Every shawl is photographed front and back so you can see the reverse of the embroidery before you enquire; hand work shows its thread ends and small irregularities there, machine work does not. The collection ranges from a plain pashmina with a tilla border to fully worked jamawar-style shawls.
To enquire about a shawl, use the WhatsApp button on its page. We will send more photographs, confirm availability and tell you the shipping time for your country.
Questions we are asked
How do I know the pashmina is genuine?
Genuine pashmina is warm the instant it touches the skin, has no sheen, and its hand weave shows small irregularities against the light. A fringe thread burns slowly and smells of hair rather than melting. We are happy to send a fringe thread to anyone who asks, and our journal has a full guide to the checks.
What is the difference between sozni, tilla and kashidakari?
Kashidakari is the general name for Kashmiri hand embroidery. Sozni is its finest needlework in silk thread, often covering the whole shawl; tilla is embroidery in gold or silver thread, couched down by hand, usually on borders and motifs. Jamawar-style shawls combine dense work in several colours.
Are the shawls made to order?
Most are finished pieces, because pashmina embroidery takes many months and is done in Kashmir. Some designs can be commissioned in another colour; ask on WhatsApp and we will tell you what is possible and when.
Do you ship pashmina shawls outside India?
Yes, worldwide. Each shawl travels in a protective wrap, and we tell you the transit time and duties for your country before you confirm.
